I dug my old SS 'guard out and also had a look at some pictures of 916 'guards.

The two types do not look all that different to me.?

The difference is in the mounting bolt holes. I hope you can see what is going on with the bolt holes in the picture of the SS 'guard on top of my 916 type forks.

The SS 'guard will go straight onto your forks with no messing where as you will have to jig somthing up to make one fit from a 916.

My 'guard is a bit scruffy now but some of that blue paint of yours will transform it.
Is it derived from the blue on the early 900SS..?

The nasty looking split is just a crack in the paint, lifting and not a split in the 'guard.

I don't know the difference between Monster year/model forks but I have 916 forks (albeit with radial mounts but the mudguard fitting is compatible) on my Monster and, obviously, a 916 mudguard fits fine but so does a Monster mudguard - and an 1198 mudguard for that matter.

No worries Perkles....Shame you didn't ask 15 years ago...

I had a Carbon mudguard, same shape as the red SS one..There should be one out there somewhere.

Duke, There are basicaly two blade shapes, Monster and sports. But whatever style the blade is, it still needs the specific bolt pattern to fit the desired fork type...Either high or low bolt holes.

You can make up a bracket to fit. I have a later mudguard on an early fork. Is matter of making a plate with 3 holes.

The carbon guard like Gazzas look real trick with the top part painted and the side left carbon. Mine is painted like that and with a corse stripe over it to match the tank and seat.

OK so, I presume that the bolt pattern on my Monster mudguard is the later version? seeing that it is the same as both a 916 and an 1198.

Lucky if so because I bought the mudguard online from Italy and it never occurred to me that it might be the wrong part...

This one doesn't show it properly because the colour is very subtle with the carbon, but I'll post some better ones when I findmy camera lead.

Looks very nice Darren...

...Funnily enough I had been planning to do just that to my front blade, but in red rather than black.
Perkles has got me thinking about chequers rather than the stripe now though..

How much would a fair offer be for a 1998 M900, 29000 with very limited history and in need of some tlc.
It has been laid up for a while and brought out this year, new tyres and a service done, the guy only had a loan of it and has now bought a 999s.
I have the chance of it but don't know what to offer.

I did one on my 97 monster. Its really easy with a piece of 3mm ally plate about 12mm wide and a length to suit holes. Basically you mount it in the holes and tap 2 others to suit. And it sits behind out of site.

I didn't even tap mine, only one needs nut and bolt.

Hard to say without even a picture.Depends what TLC means, extras, what "service" means and what your plans are with it. 1700 quid at a guess..
