Answer....
....i think,
A bend is more of a kink in the road where the road flows away from you, whereas a corner is more of a right angle in the road where the corner appears to come back on you....... ........or you've just got too much time on your hands.........lol Cheers, Shandy |

Apparently one definition of a corner is "the point where converging lines, edges, or sides meet" where as bend is "to turn or force from straight or even to curved or angular".
A Corner is more of a pointy thing like a junction, bend is more of a twisty thing errr like a bend, bend is also "to apply oneself vigorously" which is what you do on a Monnie

You take a bend quickly and a corner slowly
Or a bend is a deviation of a continuing road, but a corner may be an intersection of more than one road.

I was going to post
If a bend is a deviation of a continuing road Then a bend is a deviation from the norm Wales has lots of bends (probably more per head than most other areas of the UK) Would it be fair to say that there is a lot of deviation from the norm in Wales per head. There are also a lot of sheep in wales But I thought better of it

Some very erm...interesting... replies. The question arose as an American (admittedly on an American website) tried to correct me when I used the term bends for... well bends. He said they're corners and I don't agree. I'm going with this description - "A corner is the angle formed when two straight lines meet. A bend is an arc line, a fragment of a circle."
But I also go with this simple description - " A corner is found at a junction, a bend is a curve in a road". Last edited by Bodybag; 14-01-2008 at 10:50 PM.. |

According to the Oxford English Dictionary:
A bend (noun) is "a curve in a road, path or river" (don't go riding your bike down a river!) a corner (noun) is "a place where two streets meet" BUT the verb "corner" includes the description "go round a bend in a road".
