Glad you got your replacement at last. It's looking good wrapped in Carbon.

I think that BMW used those headlamps, so you might be able to find the clip and screw at a BMW dealer?

I'm very sorry to hear you had an accident with one of those clips. They terrify me, hence the warning on the instruction sheet. I did have one hit me in the eye years ago, luckily it hit blunt side first, and I had time to blink, so I was over it in a couple of days. The thought of what the spiked end could do is horrendous.
Thanks for re-iterating the warning and pleased you got off relatively lightly.

Yea, fine once the first clip is in, the rest go in easily but you still have to take care. I had to take them out an re-position them a few times because at the top there is a protruding tongue on the bowl which clips it to the rim. I think it might be a bit wider on the carbon than the metal one and was pushing against the clips preventing it locating.

I was thinking the same, as I used to have a BMW with the same light. I will have to email MotorWorks on Mon.

I had a couple of hours bike time this morning so I thought I would fit my new LED/carbon headlight.

Out with the old and in with the new or the good the bad and the ugly?

I can live with that.

It seems much brighter on standard dipped (the small bottom projector and 2 side led arrays lit) and not that much brighter on full beam (as before but big top projector also lit). The pilot bulb is way brighter as it lights up the halo to give a DRL type light. I still need to adjust it to the correct position and the real test of course will come when it's dark.

This will interesting, I hope (think) you'll find that the mainbeam is brighter than it appears right now.

Yea, I will try it when it's dark as I think the dipped beam is very bright and reflecting back so you can't really see.

Jeff, I think I know the bike you allude to with the dipped airbox, and if I'm right it also has some other undetectable carbon dipped parts that you really cannot tell from real carbon.
You gave me a big idea with dipping my airbox as I have been thinking on and off for a long while as to how to be rid of the black plastic. Unfortunately mine is also ribbed which offends me too, not sure if carbon effect would make the ribs palatable. I will have to look at that dipped airbox the next time I see it.
Although I have had another idea up my sleeve for a while..
Interesting to see the dipping process at 5:30. I must say, that satin carbon effect looks pretty convincing.

Plug and Play Darren? I see a ballast box in you pic, were you running Xenon/LED's in your original set up?

Xenon HID. There is also a transformer which provides the 6000 volts needed to generate the plasma!

Plug and play because I wanted one of these clips that fix the bezel to the shell: -

So I could have both headlamps ready assembled to plug in without having to faff about taking it all apart and swapping the clip. All of my enquiries so far have turned up nothing and no reply from MotorWorks either and I don't think they even list the clip as a spare part except with a new bezel which is ££££. So if anyone knows where I can get one that would be great.

Motorworks do list that clip separately as LIR56402A for 5 quid: https://www.motorworks.co.uk/vlive/S...QA_15&spPage=2

But they're probably the only ones, as they also say
Quote:
Not available separately from BMW, this little assembly comprises the clip to fix the headlight rim to the shell, along with the screw and small square nut. Beware; screw heads are soft brass so they are often imperfect.
And
Quote:
Stock of this item varies daily. Please call to check availability and condition
So this sounds suspiciously like "parts we harvested"

Edit: Well, duh - that's right there in the "Used - Headlamp rim clip and screw" description...

Oh, well done that man and thanks! I searched the whole site and couldn't find one and even emailed them. I will check out the part number you mention. It's only really needed to save fiddling about with it, because it is very fiddly as I found. The screw on mine was chromed plated but had the threads cut into near the end so it was hard work to get the little square nut all the way off, maybe that is intentional to stop the thing dropping out?

Finally got around to getting a 7" lamp and fitting my ring:

...I like the look better than the original.

I have yet to take it out after dark to see what the light is like, this was a fairly cheap unit off ebay, and I've got a philips extremevision in it. In the shed it is definitely brighter, but that's expected given the lack of diffuser(?) covering the bulb.
