Renthal R4SRS chain help

Guy’s,
Wee bit of an interesting one. I’m trying my chain out for size and I’ve hit a couple problems.

First one is easy: it’s covered in some sort of white stuff; i thought lube of some description but it’s ultra sticky. Is that normally cleaned off? Seems like it should be to me. Massive magnet for grit I would have thought.

Two: the master link has solid pins and it specifically says not to use a normal hollow link riveter! Anybody done one like this before? Might have to buy a special tool.

Anybody know what this is for?
