Full fairing on a Monster?
I'm racing my Monster next year and am allowed to fit a fairing. I'm looking at fitting a nose cone at least (and have to fit a belly pan), but wondered about the possibility of fitting a full fairing to the Monster.
Has anyone done this? Or has anyone fitted a fairing or race nose fairing off of another bike? I was thinking about a 996 type nose fairing, I reckon the full fairing would be too big, any suggestions? All help appreciated. Thanks Tim |

There's a yellow one with a superbike nose fairing, from California, about halfway down.
http://www.duc.org/Monster_outrageou...rs_gallery.htm I'd have thought the more fairing the better aerodynamically speaking, as long as it's not made of lead. |

Thanks - I'll check it out. The thing is that I still really want it to look like a monster and not a 996 or whatever the donor bike would be. So I'd rather just have a nose fairing, so maybe some bike that has a largish nose cone might do it - SV650?
But if there is a full fairing that doesn't dominate the look, I'd be interested. Thanks Tim |

I'm not that convinced that a large fairing is needed really. The speeds you'll be attaining won't top 130 odd mph, and a fairly modest bikini fairing would allow you to hang on at those speeds fairly well. You'll be flat on the tank anyway anytime there's a straight!!
I've observed racing SV650s in minitwins this year that the half dozen bikes that went for small screens rather than full race bodywork didn't seem at all disadvantaged - in fact one was running around third or fourth in Bemsee at Cadwell (full circuit) and Snetterton, out of a field of 40 odd, and there were some very quick riders in there!! Certainly those without race bodywork were running spread through the pack, and not trailing at the back! Found some minitwins pics showing the variety of fairings in use: http://www.brakingzone.com/BZ_shop.a...t=HD&gallery=2 The Minitwin series is for 650cc twins (primarily aimed at SV650) 72bhp limit, and speeds should be roughly comparable I'd say. Nice site - I'm with you on the "full fairing not really required" front.
So am interested in what other bike's nose fairings have been fitted to monsters. I guess a search of ebay for "nose fairings" is required. Thanks Tim |

Tim... Rich from Louigi Moto was going to try and graft a TZ fairing on his (weeksys having a couple of rounds on it next year I think)..but if I were you id start looking for an S4 challenge fairing and hump like the ones I bought (see link) ..they were designed specifically for aerodynamics and they work well...The factory are having a clear out at the minute and im pretty sure theyve got some cheap seat humps in bare Glass fibre...but I dont think the headlamp cowl was ever listed as a part number. That said..its very similar in shape to a very early monster cowl, so id look for a tatty one of those, glass up the holes/extend the sides a little and make some brackets and youll be away !!

Here's a few i've found...
The carbon twin headlamp jobbie was being flogged on ebay in Germany. The rest are from various galleries on the web.

on that front, i always considered the bikini thing to be purely cosmetic. and it doesnt do it for me. Is it really a big improvement on aerodynamics? i found the monster to really lack comfort at higher speeds (i am sure everybody agres) would a bikini improve things on a long motorway journey ? (i have tried a windshield, and is definitely better, but how about the lower fairing as well ?)
(last one aint a monster...) |

Why not use the original Challenge fairing+seat unit?
