Random ? 1100s engine
just out of pure curiosity what sort of miles are these engines good for ? obviously with good service intervals , iv herd of the s2r 800 doing 70k plus id guess that's riding fairly lightly ? anyway im sure someone out there has a good idea ? many thanks vince ..

I would think a well looked after bike/engine should be good for 100k. The japs, brits, krouts and yanks can do it so why not the eyties.

Depends on how you treat it, as my 1000DS approaches 100k miles it''s been rebuilt twice from the crank up, had valves and guides replaced, a replacement vertical head recently, three clutches.
It's also done (i'd guess) 30 trackdays and been used regularly for London commuting. I'm sure one used more gently would make the 100K without such bother. |

Surely if you replace all the worn or wearing out parts it will last for ever, so long as you can replace them?

MrsC_772 has a 696 with over 70k on the clock and a target of 100k+ so I don't see why you couldn't expect similar from an 1100, given proper maintenance.

ok dare I ask the question , why did the main ends go on my 900ie at only 40k ? I had it from only 4k serviced every 4 to 6 k miles , original air box and filter always good quality oil , I figured that was fairly normal life of a bike engine ? I did ride it fairly spritely but never near the limiter ? although I know the 1100s is a bit further up the spec range and more modern engine so hoping for a bit more longevity ..

bad luck, poorer build quality in late 90s/early 00s.
lack of warm up from cold is also v.common |
