SCHEDULE OF THE DAY:
Official hours 1300 - 1700 though being a bit early and lingering late is common

HARD FAST RULES:
No motorcycle boots or loose items in the planes HAC rule to protect the planes, they're expensive to fix and loose items can be left inside and jam controls leading to fatal accidents for the pilots when they fly.
Speeding or bad behavior on IWM premises will not be tolerated IWM called today to emphasize that they'll be watching for hooliganism. So we now qualify as a gang instead of a club. UKMOG anybody? Seriously though they have very slow speed limits posted so watch out.

CONCEPT OF THE DAY:
I've organized an extra "winter program" event for the UKMOC in June with the Historic Aircraft Collection which I volunteer at during airshows. The event is basically a small group tour behind the scenes, up close and personal with the aircraft and specific IWM exhibits. The idea is we start about noon and go as long as there is interest, questions or photos being taken... or until IWM Duxford closes and kicks us out!

General plan for the day will be to start with some videos taken by our media gurus allowing you to see cockpit perspectives and other views using cameras mounted to wings, guns and other random parts of the planes while they performed during past airshows, formation flights, etc. basically things you'd never see from ground. Then the pilot, Charlie Brown, will guide you through the IWM exhibits that he's chosen to help him tell the story of the Battle of Britain, tactics, technology advances and design perspectives usually using the BF-109 exhibit and a few others. He'll tell stories of flying the different warbirds and do his best to describe what its like in each of the planes he's experienced. He answers questions as you ask them and is pretty much your tour guide. He's flown the Hurricane, Spitfire and 109's so likes to describe the way they all fought, their strengths and weaknesses.

The rest of the day is spent behind the red ropes in the IWM hangar with the HAC collection (a Fury, Nimrod, Hurricane and Spit as well as the mounted Merlin engine in our workshop). All of which you can touch and view up close... we open aircraft panels and expose the internals to see the mechanicals of the planes, show off their construction and systems, and finally put you into the cockpit... usually the Spit since everybody loves it. There we do a show and tell of what things are, and answer your questions about the plane from inside it, let you hold the stick (if thats your sort of thing ) take photos etc.
