How do speedos work?
Hi, can anybody tell me how electronic speedos work. In particular is it the ECU software that interprets the rear wheel sensor signal, then sending information to a standard speedo to show the speed. Or are the speedos diferent to suit, wheel sizes, number of sensor triggers etc.? Hopefully somebody knows! Bitza.

Triggers are the disk bolts and they changed from 5 to 6 and back to 5 again so ypur speedo will need to match.

not sure whether it’s the ecu or the clocks which interprets the pulses from the disc bolts

Ecu same for RPM. Well the least on m695 style ecu as with right software on them you can change bolt count.

No Electrics AKA "Go Faster for less"
ECU Programming to make it work not hard, fuel map different story but changing what each pin does in ECU is just a bit of software coding with off the shelf programmers. Assuming ECU is not password protected like the new ones Bloody tree hippis

Hi Saint, you seem to have some idea about how these speedos work, so is it the ecu software that processes the information from the sensor, to take into acount the number of triggers/rev & the tyre size etc, which then activates the standard speedo to show the speed? By standard speedo I mean that the same instrument is fitted to all models and that it relies on the ecu software to calculate the diferences between the models specs. Thanks Bitza.
