Monster "horseshoe" DRL
The newest Monster 821 (we have two in the family) has the headlight that I believe many of the later 1200's have, it has the horseshoe shaped LED daytime running light (DRL) between the upper dip and the lower main beam.
When the engine is started the dip beam comes on as well as the DRL on the 821, but not on the 1200. My Supersport is similar to the 1200. The 1200 also has a button on the right hand control to switch the dip on or off, which the 821 does not have. I am looking to modify our 821s to give a true DRL but cannot find any info on the differences. I contacted Ducati Aylesbury, who didn't seem to understand what I wanted so told me to ask on a forum. Anyone been down this route? If I just fit the right hand switch gear will the function be as teh 1200? |

Looking at the parts books and owners manuals, I don't think they will: 2017 1200s and 2018 'new' 821 wiring diagrams both show a DRL switch wired via the instrument cluster so it may well be a function of the clocks. The previous 821 (2016 'stripe') has no handlebar switch or connector for DRL on the clocks. If you have both bikes together I'd a switch swap, or at least look at the connectors and see if they'll fit.

It's only the 1200S that has a switch and more leds to make it a DRL, the standard 1200 does not have the switch and has less leds so its just a position light. So if you change the switch gear over you will also need an S headlight to make it work properly as a DRL.

Edit to say; Just been looking at the pictures on the Ducati web site and the 1200S headlight seems to be identical to that on the new 821. Last edited by BobT; 01-07-2018 at 04:23 PM.. |

I would say yes as they are different part numbers. The 821 has the same part number as the 1200r and that does not have a DRL either.

Okay have just downloaded the parts catalogues for the 1200S and the latest 821 and they both have the same headlight part number 52010391BA. Last edited by BobT; 02-07-2018 at 11:18 AM.. |

https://issuu.com/desmoworks/docs/mo...87458/48444807 which is this online site, quicker as its online. https://amsducati.com/ducati-oem/ the number you have quoted is for the 1200, the S is 52010381BA. For my downloaded version I used this site http://www.ducati.com/services/maintenance/index.do Good luck. Just had a quick trip to my local dealer and can see no difference in the headlights of the 1200s, 1200 and the 821 so although they are different part numbers I don't have anymore info than that.

Thanks for the info. Looking deeper into it I suspect that they are all the same as one digit change usually means a very minot update. I can imagine that one has a different coloured bit of plastic inside it over the other. :-)
Just need to fathom what else apart from the button on the left handlebar is different. |
