Wiring in an DP Tachometer

Managed to get hold of a DP Speedo/Tacho instrument panel which I'm looking to fit to my 99 M900 (carb model).
Unfortunately it didn't come with any wiring instructions, there are 3 wires exiting the rear of the tacho, BLACK, PINK and PURPLE, an educated guess says the BLACK is earth, and the PINK and PURPLE connect to each of the coil outputs (12v) to provide the firing pulses to the tacho. Can anybody confirm this is correct before I commit myself?
Thanks Guys

It's a start, problem is the wire colours are different from mine, the tacho I have isn't marked up as a DP tacho, it just has the CEV marking inside.

Some pics of Tacho. Suppose I could substitute your wire colours for mine (from the position in the plug), that would make BROWN=BLACK, BLUE=PINK and YELLOW=PURPLE

Certainly looks like much the same tacho unit to me ...

I recall that, when I got mine new, it came with a bare plug and no wires at all.

Yep agreed, think I'll have to suck it and see. BTW don't suppose you know where I can get a replacement plug from do you? I've tried vehicle wiring products, but they don't stock them

I was looking into doing the same a while ago (yr2000, M750).
In the end I sidetracked into fitting a gear indicator instead.
I'll have a look at some wiring diagrams this evening and see if anything rings a bell.
In the meantime, I seem to remember that the yellow wiring is for the instrument illumination lights.
I also wonder if you need a bulb holder to fit the tacho....I think I may have one knocking about. Yours for the postage, if I can find it.
Finally, with the aid of a needle or similar thin prodder, you may be able to remove the pins from your existing plug and solder replacement wires to them. Alternatively, I've used Auto Electric Supplies for odd bits in the past...they might be worth a try.
