Only running on one cylinder....

Well after 3 years of faultless running on my first bike (96 P), its decided to start giving me headaches. The front cylinder has stopped working. So i've been searching through old threads looking for help, and believe that the pickup coil is dead.

I started by replacing the plugs, then swapping the HT leads, ignition coils and ignition control units, but still no spark on the front cylinder. I then tested the pickup coil wires with a meter, and the wires for the front cylinder pickup coil is dead.

I've read lots of horror stories on the forums about the pickup coils costing over £100, and also that availability is bad as the factory closes for the summer..?

I run my bike on a shoestring, and really can't afford 3 figures on a part you can't even see. I found a pickup coil on ebay, but missed the end of the auction (they sold for £26).....gutted.

Does anyone have any answers or even a spare they could sell me...?

The suns shining and i'm in a bad mood.

Sounds like you've tracked down the problem, unfortunatly due to where these things are behind the casings its probably not the sort of thing people have lying around Maybe a breakers might help??

On the bright side if you have shoe stringed things for a while is the odd expense that bad??? And the factory should be fully open now it's only most of August they close for.

Good Luck,

Shandy

Definitely keep an eye out on ebay. Rosso Corse have started up a second hand parts department and usually have a few "seen better days" which they break down.

Might be worth giving Ray or Marcus a call on 020 7780 9764

Where are you checking it?

It could be a broken wire between the unit and your check point, see if you can check it nearer the pick ups
