Hi from a 750ss owner

Hi folks, thought I'd post a quick hello as I need to ask some questions about Monsters.
I've owned a few Ducatis over the years, currently running a 2001 750ss ie.

Anyway, hello from a soon-to-be Monster owner.
Cheers
Steve

Hello and welcome..

I took the same route myself, from '91 750SS to '98 M900.

Are you keeping the SS or trading?

Thanks for welcome!

@Mr Gaza - not sure at the mo, depends whether I can get a half decent PX deal if I can find what I want at a dealer. Otherwise I'll probably sell her on as after two years of trying I still can't get on with the riding position!

bars on the SS are a little extreme

gilies make adjustable bars for the SS that allow them to be raised about an inch which makes the SS far more comfortable

they turn up on flea bad from time to time but as soon as the word ducati is attached to them it doubles the price, I found a set of a Suzuki, same fork tube diameter for a lot les £££, had to redrill bars to suit ducati switch gear

The riding position on the injected SS is more sporty than the carbed model. I tried one and couldn't get on with it despite having ridden a couple of sports bikes. It just doesn't feel quite right. Monsters are much easier on the body for us oldies, but I still love my SS.

Don't the SS ie bikes have straight clip-ons vs the carbie SS clip-on with risers?

I always liked the old SS and found it quite comfy, felt like a tourer compared to my 748!

SSie have clip-ons but they are a sharpish angle that does your wrists in

adjustable clip-ons can have less acute angle and raise effective height of grips an inch or so and are a lot more comfortable.

have 98 monster and 02 SS

monster more comfortable around lanes and around town

on open road the SS comes into its own

My SS feels like riding an armchair, just so comfy even with my bad back. Ducati got it just right with that model. It still handles well though despite the laid back feel of it.

Are you a tall chap Gilps?

Seems to me that tall folk find the SS more comfortable than the small hausens like me.

I threw my leg over a 916 years ago and wrote off the idea of riding it there and then..Let alone owning one....As I teetered on my little tippy toes.

Same thing with the Aprillia Mille....Popular with the tall guys.

I'm only 5'6" with 29" inside leg. The SS is one of the few bikes where I can actually get both feet on the floor at the same time, albeit not flat but not precariously tippy toe either. I had a 998S Bostrom for a while and hated riding it as I had to plan each stop before I got there.

Ah well..Bang goes another theory..

I figured that those with longer arms might sit a bit more upright.

Well to be fair overall height does not always tell the whole story. Arms/legs/body lengths all vary quite a lot. Gilps might have the arms of a gorilla?
