M900 clutch cover gasket

I am on a mission to reduce the clatter from my clutch. I will be trying the quiet clutch mod courtesy of extra clutch plates donated by Dukedesmo but I also note that I have a steel clutch cover that riings like a bell if I hit it, and that can't help the cause at all. I think the cover should have a (rubber?) gasket , which I don't have. Has anyone got a gasket I can have? Thanks

I'm sure Moto Rapido or indeed any Ducati dealer would be able to provide you with one.
They do charge of course, but if anyone lets you have one make sure the little brass spacers are all present in the mounting screw holes.
Sometimes the cover will squash the rubber gasket into the drum and the resulting cloud of rubber smoke is very entertaining.
I believe the steel cover is actually double walled in an attempt at sound deadening. Not sure it should ring? I wonder if annealing it would make it less resonant?

Guess what!

I've got a couple of these knocking about that I'll never use.

As an aside, I think if you fit the OEM metal cover then you might need the gasket or at least some spacers (rubber gasket has some spacers in it) to stop it touching the spinning clutch?

Happy to do the same deal as the plates?

Thanks

Yes, OEM Ducati gasket with brass spacers;

Spacers are only fitted in 4 holes as the other 2 don't actually hold the cover on, it slips over the top.

Tim, I'll have that, many thanks. I have sent you a pm

Gazza, I'm not sure about it being double skinned. It doesn't really look like it is. Its an original cover with an elephant on it

Thanks

No problem, will get it off to you.

The only covers I've seen are double skinned but I think that might be a later modification so earlier covers may not be? No idea if the double skin was for noise or strength?

if you look at the edges, you should see the join of the 2 layers of thin metal that make up the cover, certainly the 2 I've got here are both that way.

If it's got an Elephant on then it's probably early Cagiva stock.

Thanks Tim, you have a pm.

I'm pretty sure the cover is single-skinned. No doubt the later double-skinned cover is slightly less noisy but in the interests of maintaining originality I'll have to live with what I've got.

Cheers

I've got a feeling it might be an aluminium cover if it's got an Elefant on it?
Have you tried a magnet on it?

Interesting you say this as I was sorting out some parts yesterday and found this;

4mm thick alloy spacer, presumably to replace the rubber gasket whilst keeping sufficient distance from the clutch?

No idea if a Ducati part or aftermarket.

This is probably one of them then, as it was in a box of bits I had from you.

Yea, I think I have seen one of those in one of the boxes you gave me. I actually thought it was a later factory part

You're welcome guys, not bad for an amateur on a lathe, I was always right out of my comfort zone when using one, scared the pants off me sometimes but needs must....

Anoraks corner. My mistake. I checked with a magnet and my clutch cover is aluminium , not steel. As well as an elefant , the inside of the cover has a "4" date stamp (?) I'm guessing for a manufacturing date of 1994 and a name of Emilpress. I looked them up and they still exist as an Italian manufacturer of aluminium products.

I'm guessing that part of the rationale for the alloy gasket is to replace the original rubber one , which doesn't look great when fitted.
