S4R07/RS JPDiag

Well I finally got laptop to connect up to the bike. Anybody familiar with this can see anything out of the ordinary? Ignition on but engine not running.

TPS was reading 2.5/2.6 deg so I reset it in the software but should it change? Anyway bike started fine with the tank up and everything hooked up, almost straight away.

So I disconnected everything, dropped tank, seat etc and it wouldn't start!

This bike, my nemesis I swear (a lot)

Am going to try aain with tank up in case its a trapped hose.

Some progress made yesterday trawling through the Jpdiag forum. After sending several email requests and waiting as per the info I had, I was about to give up for the day until I finally found this link:-

https://jpdiag.akress.com/jpdiag.php

You just need to fill in the form and the license comes back after a couple of hours. It was too late at that point to carry on. I'm not sure if you need to be registered on the forum but the link is here:-

https://jpdiag.xooit.eu/index.php

It may save someone all the pain I had.

I will call that a win, at least on the software side.

I think I found 1 problem this morning it was saying at 2.5 deg TPS was at mid point even though throttle was fully closed? I did the TPS reset and it now says 2.6 degs fully closed, Any ideas how it got like that? It has now started 5 times after a bit of coughing and spluttering for a few seconds each time. Maybe I speak too soon since this has seemingly been cured of this starting issue so many times only to play up again. It is def a lot better but the coughing could be down to throttle body balance or o2 trim neither of which I have the gear to check or do. Fingers crossed that is all it needs now.

Darren hi.

Have a play with the CO value, JPDiag allows you to test the setting effect before setting it properly so you can try to get it better by trial and error.

Hit the Trimmer tab along the top and have a play whilst the bike is running.

Good luck!

Thanks, Si. I may have a play because it is
a whole load better starting now it failed once on the first press but started on the next two. I still think it is too rich but then they do tend to run better on that side anyway with the DP full system and it is in a close space so I can't run it long anyway because of the fumes/noise etc. Omg what an awesome noise!

There are 2 buttons on the side of the TPS button but I'm not sure what they do/change (adaptive setting etc). I am actually impressed as it is so much better now, so it was worth all the pain.

Hi Darren, I'm glad to hear that you are making progress, I wonder if it is worth having a word with Neil at cornerspeed, he put a custom map on it for me and it made a hell of a difference, just my 2p worth, everything you are doing is WAY above my skill set, I'm a proper analogue guy ;-)

Yea, I made some leaps forward now but will keep testing it ongoing to make sure it's consistent at least, which if you solve the digital fueling issues mentally the rest is old school analogue anyway. Anything else I will let Neil look into as a last resort as funds are a bit limited atm.

The only other issues I saw were in the DTC and could not reproduce them anyway so I figured they were from when you working on bike and replaced crank sensor. i cleared them and they did not come back anyway.

Good work Darren

I have to admit I was a little sceptical of JPDiag when I first started using it, as it does look like something off a ZX Spectrum, but actually the simplicity means that with just a little help from a couple of people I managed to understand far more than I thought I would.
I've plugged in and sorted the TPS etc on my M1000, 1000SS and 999.

Obviously what's achievable with it is only really service stuff, it's not a mapping tool, but it's given me a great sense of achievement far greater than paying somebody to plug it in and sort it.

It spurred me on to have a go at a map using a Powercommander III on both my M1000 and 1000SS, which again for an old mechanical engineer like me felt like I'd conquered alchemy.
I've got a PCIII to put on my 999, but actually I prefer the standard exhaust on it at the moment so haven't fitted it yet.
Yes I know my Maps are never going to be as good as somebody can get with a proper mapping session on a Dyno, but I can say I've done it myself, and that's really important to me.

Oh and as for:

I don't know, they are not something I've investigated yet, but now you've reminded me!

I know what you mean Si, it definitaly has that old school look and feel, more early 90's Windows 3.x/Commodore Amiga imho. Not knocking it though as it does work and it's free after all!

I did find this book helpful, the chapters on all the different throttle bodies and ECUs was worth reading before going in and tinkering.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304660857...mis&media=COPY

The rrp is £65 so if you can get if for £30 or less new, it's a no brainer.

I forgot to mention that all the 'static' tests in jpdiag were good (coil 1&2) , inj 1 & 2, fuel pump etc but Fan 1 did not work. Fan 2 ok so obviously unrelated to the starting issue but I'm not sure

I just went down cold and started the bike to see how it would go. Vid here:-

https://youtu.be/Ogn70PJknik

Struggles a bit at the start, then a massive backfire about 30secs in which made me jump, because it had'nt done that before (at least when it was running).

Darren, wow, yes, bet that made you jump.

A couple of thoughts:
Sorry if you've already checked them.

Is it definitely running on both cylinders?

Are both blanking plugs in place in the Exhaust headers where you'd fit sensors for tuning?
I had one go missing on my M1000 and it was backfiring at the slightest excuse.

Yea, made me jump because it was louder than you see on the vid, for a start. I mean it had been backfiring a bit before anyway since the TPS was'nt set right when trying to start it but it did and I'm wondering if there is still some carb cleaner in the stepper pipes?
