New Monster owner says hi

Hello there!

I've only been a biker for 3 years, not had a bike since i sold my TRX850 in December. I only ever bought the TRX in the first place because it sounded and looked a bit like a monster (once unfaired).

Anyway, I've had this beaut for a week now. A very late 2001, 916 S4 with only 7K on the clock, FSH, 3 owners, Termi's, K&N, and it's pretty mint too.

is this a regular occurance or just me?

I rode it every day last week and just can't get enough of it, the only faults i can give it is that the front suspension is probably a bit stiff, making the headlamp bounce about, the screen flaps about pathetically, and the clutch is stiff if you have a habit of sitting with it held in at junctions.

i uploaded the pics to photobucket and just copied in the links with [ img ] tags on them, it ain't rocket science.

the bike was fairly clean, just needed some proper scrubbing. I haven't even started yet, i'm a cleaning pervert, it'll be getting a proper detail and zymol waxing soon. and yes, i do use it every day :-)

I got all 3 keys too (inc red one), all the history and manuals from new. The guy has really looked after it, and I thanked him duly for that as it really is in stunning condition compared to the others I looked at (with 10k more ont he clock, for only £200 less!!)

I'm tempted to do a few mods, but nothing that can't be put back to standard. I'm fancying an S4R sytle strip, but in the same silver as the ducati logo on the tank rather than white. would that be gay?

Welcome Phatty.
My 900 had ridiculously hard front suspension when i got it.
It's a wonder the front wheel didn't shatter.
I softened it as far as i could with the adjusters but it could still do with a touch less fork oil.
Nice bike.
Happy Monstering!

I haven't even read the manual yet, don't even know which suspension settings to what yet.

but it's fair to say they will be wrong as the previous owner was nearly a foot taller than me so if it was setup for him then it certainly won't be right for me.

still handles mint, just feels a bit hard and the headlight is a joke, it's like a strobe.

No, it wouldn't!
It sounds like you share my views regarding modification - i.e. Keep it simple and classy, nothing that devalues the bike and subtle class rather than tacky cheap rubbish.
That looks like a nice bike, and I reckon it'll get better in your hands. Well done finding it, too.

Looks like a real minter just like mine did a few years ago before all of the engine paint stated to flake off...but they all do that eventually (apparently)
I lived with the stiff clutch for years but have recently fitted a larger slave cyinder, makes all the differance. As for the wobbly screen.....good init?
