Gaskets for top end rebuild
I'm about to lift the barrels off my 1996 600 as it's smoking like a James Bond smokescreen! The bike has only got 45PSI compression on the vertical cylinder so I’m assuming the rings are broken or stuck.
Are the Athena gaskets off eBay OK? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ducati-Mo...vaD:rk:45:pf:0 I’ve successfully rebuild old car engines in the past so I’m OK spanner wise but I’ve never done this before, is there anything else I need or need to look out for? All tips welcome |

I've just done this myself for the first time and it isn't too bad. Get yourself a Haynes manual and the right tool for torquing up the head nuts. Other than that I got a gasket set off of ebay (claimed to be genuine) and some liquid gasket.
I had a shattered oil ring in the vertical cylinder. Genuine rings are about £150 for a set. Stein-Dinse do a pattern set for about £80 and I found a guy on eBay in Germany that did just the oil ring for £40 just to give you an idea of prices. |

Thanks, I'll have a look for those. I'll need to get it stripped first to see what I actually need.
