Tank latch cleanup

Noticed the latch on the front of my tank is beginning to look a bit tatty, laquer has 'tide marks' all over it.
What's they best way to clean it up and improve the looks?

I do have a little home blasting cabinet with some glass beads in it that may take off the laquer but I'm not sure whether the chrome effect beneath it is just another shiny coating or the metal itself.

Come to think of it, this may be the second latch on this bike as I seem to remember the first one broke....or was that my SS. Uh! this age stuff sucks.

Wonder how much new ones are then- anyone?

Really?
I'll check this in the dealers before doing anything harsh first.
Dont suppose you have any links? I had a cursory look on ebay but prices there were a bit too optimistic for my tastes, but it wont be the first time I've found OE parts cheaper from Ducati than second hand.
