Service Question - S4R, 33000 miles...

Hi there

Newbie here. I have a Ducati S4R with 33k miles on it. Full Ducati service history up-to 12k miles and then serviced be a Ducati mechanic up-to 30k miles. I've done about 150 miles on it since buying it!

Getting some differing advice - local mechanic reckons the shims never go out and he has some device for ascertaining whether they need doing?? Ducati Wolverhampton (nearest dealer - I'm in Mid Wales) are stating that I should get everything done.

Thoughts lads and lasses?

Just had a chat with the previous owner and they were done at 20,000 miles - they didn't need adjusting...

Stay away from your local mechanic, and get the valve clearances checked, if they are out of spec. Then they need adjusting. The last thing you need is some clown telling you that they are never out.

Your local mechanic may have a point....but its a bad one.
I believe that its true that valve clearances tend to settle and stabilise after ten or fifteen thousand miles, but its absolute folly not to check them.
If yours haven't been done for 13k miles, I'd say they definitely need checking.

As above.

Check = cheap
No check = possibly very expensive
