Oil change hahahahahaha
Well, the latest bolt that cannot be removed from this bike is the sump plug.
When I got back home after getting the shock absorber bolt fiasco sorted, I thought, great, weathers getting better, engines hot. Lets change the oil! Naaaaaaaaaaaah The sump plug has been installed by a moron, impossible to budge. Lets see where this journey ends. I've bought one of these for afterwards. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ducati-Mo...53.m1438.l2649

Those are a good idea, are much better quality and they don't round off like the allen key type. Can' t remember if mine is titanium or stainless but it has a rubber o ring so you don't even need the crush washer and presumably seals better without having to be so tight. Good luck getting yours out! IIRC they are brass so quite soft and round off real easy so go steady.

Frustrating. There's an error in the maintenance manual where one section says the drain plug torque is 42Nm (wrong) and another part says 20Nm (right). Maybe the previous owner used the wrong figure (although I'd have thought the threads would have stripped before that). Also, the manual recommends using Threebond, which also might add to its stubbornness.
Try getting a friend to lean it over so you can get your impact wrench on it. If the allen head rounds off, try hammering a slightly larger torx bit fully home - that should have enough grip to undo it. Note that there are two plugs under the crankcase; just to be certain you're working on the right plug, it's this one, not the other one directly under the gauze filter. Good luck! |

Previous owner may have been caught out. On mine, the workshop manual is wrong and states 40 odd NM for the main plug. Should be more like 20NM.
Must have been writing reply same time as Luddite :-) |

Yep, the standard sump plug is crap. I just did my 1100s and thankfully, instead of rounding out the socket just got stuck in the sump plug. Tool me ages to extricate it and I bought a new oem sump plug. Is the one you got off ebay suitable for an 1100s?

I think they're all pretty standard and the OEM one is horrible, bin it and get a better quality aftermarket one.
