Very late M600 specs
Noticed a couple of Monster 600's for sale & general pics etc recently and they all seem to have a different engine to mine, mine's one of the very last 2001 M600's, it's not the M620 but seems to have the M620 engine casings and an external clutch slave cylinder studying various pics. It also has different clocks to the other M600's, a dual clock setup with tacho. I'm wondering if it is a "beta" M620 but with the carbed 600 engine, if so could it have the M620 frame?
Is there a way of telling the Monster 600 & 620 frames apart? |

Yes, the most obvious difference is the M600 has a rear suspension hoop, the M620ie has a tie-rod.
Late 600s ('98-ish on?) have the same bodywork as the ie Monsters and same bottom end on the engine. |

The 2000 and 2001 m600 had different wheels, fork bottoms and front mudguards too. The wheels are narrower at the point where the three "spokes" meet the wheel rim, the fork bottoms carry two plastic rings to attatch the mudguard, and the mudguard is longer to accommodate this.

Yes that would be to match the later hollow front wheel spindle

Jacq's M600 Tri Colore is a 1997 model, but has a solid front wheel spindle, rear suspension hoop and an external clutch actuator. A bit of a parts bin era maybe in the late 90's! Maybe they had 3 small pots of paint left as well.

I still have the hoop compressing the rear shock so original frame then. It does have different front fork bottoms, hadn't noticed that, plus a hollow axle.
Great info, cheers. |

Hmmm, also just noticed my rear caliper is mounted on top of the rear disc, is this 2001 only? I've seen 2000 models with lower mounted calipers and still with the single speedo, was 2001 a last hurrah or something?
