Correct you do need an advanced qualification but most groups now allow you to use your own bike and many also have cars. Neither of these two options require an advanced qualification so you could get out and about quite quickly.
In normal circumstances most Blood Bike groups will train you FOC to get you to test level. Always an option for later days....
