I've just done this myself for the first time and it isn't too bad. Get yourself a Haynes manual and the right tool for torquing up the head nuts. Other than that I got a gasket set off of ebay (claimed to be genuine) and some liquid gasket.

I had a shattered oil ring in the vertical cylinder. Genuine rings are about £150 for a set. Stein-Dinse do a pattern set for about £80 and I found a guy on eBay in Germany that did just the oil ring for £40 just to give you an idea of prices.
