Oh, shame. I was looking forward to a un-chopped frame thread. It's often mentioned, that the frame is gonna be chopped and shortened but they will keep the off cut bits for the next owner to re-attach should they wish. I just have never seen it done. That's all.

I wouldn't be bothered too much about originality and such like if I were you it's never gonna be concours original again. But like Rob says it's probably battery acid damage anyway, it's very common for those early bikes with the lead/acid battery and usual reg/rec failures.
