I second Luddite’s advice- if they’re not in the compression area going past the dust seal and you can catch them before the chrome starts to flake beyond any cleaning up I would just keep on top of cleaning and protecting the chrome after your initial remedial work.
I believe forks
are normally chromed over size and then ground down to the correct diameter which is why they should be done by a specialist and have a slightly different looking finish to cosmetic bright chrome.
