Is the breather that the hose bolt pushes against just a hollow plastic box? Could you soften the problem area with a hot air gun and then form a depression/dimple to accommodate the offending fitting. Cover the surrounding area with foil just leaving a hole where you want to soften, then apply pressure with, say, a round-ended screwdriver handle to make a dent.
