My M900 gets through rear tyres (and chains) much faster than my 916 despite being around 30hp down.
Originally I fitted it with the same Diablo Rosso tyres and it munched through it the rear in half the mileage so I fitted the less sporty Angel GTs which last better but still less than the Rossos do on the 916.
Down to power delivery and riding style I guess.
But I've never had to worry about tyres that were 5 (or more) years old...
