In my experience the engine mgmt light is usually sensor related (failed or failing). Easy for a dealer to find out what the error is, which is OK if you're near a dealer. Otherwise I think the later versions of DucDiag software can talk to the 696/796/1100 ECU which is handy if you don't have a dealer nearby.
