Finally got around to getting a 7" lamp and fitting my ring:
...I like the look better than the original.
I have yet to take it out after dark to see what the light is like, this was a fairly cheap unit off ebay, and I've got a philips extremevision in it. In the shed it is definitely brighter, but that's expected given the lack of diffuser(?) covering the bulb.
