Goodwood festival of Speed 2006
FESTIVAL OF SPEED 2006 - 7.8.9. JULY - RACING FOR GLORY - A CENTURY OF
GRANDS PRIX
It is now confirmed that the 2006 Festival of Speed will take place on July
7.8.9. The theme for 2006 will be 'Racing for Glory - a Century of Grands
Prix', celebrating the great sporting accolades to which drivers have
always aspired. It's 100 years since the first Grand Prix, a century since
the first Targa Florio road race and 40 years since the great TransAm and
CanAm series were founded.
To honour these superb motoring milestones, the selection of machinery on
the hill will include a spectacular array of Grand Prix cars, representing
everything from the first winning Renault in 1906 to last season's
championship winner from the same company. Most of the World
Championship-winning models from 1950 onwards will also be in action. In
addition, expect to see a whole host of Targa Florio winners, plus some
wonderful entries coming over from the USA to support the fabulous TransAm
and CanAm series. It should be another truly exciting and memorable
weekend.
GOODWOOD REVIVAL 2006 - 1.2.3 SEPTEMBER
The dates for the 2006 Goodwood Revival have now been confirmed, with the
event due to be held slightly earlier on 1.2.3. September.
Friday will again see a full day of official practice, with all the
excitement of qualifying, thereby maximising the thrills on offer to the
spectators. A full racing timetable will be run on both Saturday and
Sunday, but also allowing more time for special track demonstrations and
air displays. The aim, as always, is to make the weekend more relaxing and
enjoyable for spectators and competitors alike. The race schedule and
running order is yet to be confirmed but more information will be available
as the season begins.
The Revival is the only sporting event in the world set entirely to a
period theme. Every year, spectators and competitors take a magical step
back in time by getting into the effervescent Goodwood spirit, revelling in
the romance of motor racing as it used to be. The majority of visitors
dress in appropriate clothing from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, considering
it all part of the fun. The lovingly restored circuit is unchanged from
its heyday (1948-1966), and great lengths are taken to ensure that
everything on the site is exactly as it was. No modern vehicles are allowed
within the circuit perimeter throughout the weekend - period vehicles
provide all essential services and competitor support. Bands play 1950s
music, the food outlets sell fish and chips wrapped in authentic-looking
1950s newspaper, even the corn stooks on the circuit infield are made from
a specially-grown crop with extra-long stalks for hand cutting rather than
combine harvesting. An action-packed weekend of historic motor racing and
period theatre for all the family.
Entry into both events will again be by advance ticket only, so visitors
will need to ensure that they book in plenty of time so as to avoid any
last minute disappointment. The change to advance ticket only policy was
implemented two years ago in order to preserve the Revival's unique relaxed
atmosphere following a period of sustained growth. Our aim is, purely and

the best possible experience at the event.
