I just use silver rattle can under the film... tried some gold a few months ago, it looked fantastic under the carbon film.
good tip is if you make a mistake, you can use panel wipe (sold by car paint suppliers - its cheap )to remove the film without affecting the base coat.
you can use single pack acrylic rattle can lacquer over the top, but to make it really durable, 2k is FAR better. (you can get that in rattle cans now too!)
