I ran an Öhlins S4R shock on my S2R 1000 with no problems (it wasn't listed for the S2R but Öhlins confirmed it would fit when I emailed them). As Rob observed, it was oversprung for the S2R and would have benefitted from a lower spring rate, but I never got around to changing it.
