Levers wise I tend to buy evotech aftermarket ones.

You'd probably be able to pick up a used 1200s with some nice mods already on it to take the sting out of it......That's what I tend do; look for nice bikes that have lots of extras. They tend to hang around longer because most people chase 'factory' bikes thus leading to a potential good deal.

I myself stick to the saying 'factory sucks'......probably get me hung in a Ducati forum tho
