No engineering advantage, just engineering for the sake of it really and I think that sums it up quite well. As an exercise in engineering it is a pretty good and cool alternative to the standard bike. Bimota were doing all kinds of that kind of thing at the same time as the factory and most of their efforts were aesthetically better but practically worse because of over engineering. Their bespoke frames made it harder to service the engine and in some cases the engine had to be removed from the bike to be serviced.
