It always struck me as the obvious thing to do...taking the slave off and raising it up. same applies to the rear brake caliper.
Be aware that you can shoot the piston out though. Best to put a cramp over the whole lot with some wood or something as a cushion....Or in the case of the brake, a bit of ply or summat in between the pads....
