Personally, I would have thought that Ducati should be obliged to replace any tank which has deteriorated in this way, as it is clearly unfit for purpose....assuming that ethanol has been present in petrol since the time the bike was first sold.
However, that's just a personal opinion, I have no idea whether the law would support such a view.
In practice, I guess its likely that they would resist strongly, due to the huge cost involved in replacing all of these tanks. I guess that would apply to many other manufacturers who have used plastic tanks, too.
In my view though, such deterioration is likely to lead to failure at some stage, even if its ok now.....I'd be nervous if my bike had a plastic tank.
