S4R Fuel Consumption

How many miles are you getting on a full tank before the fuel light comes on?

Currently on my S4R its coming on at 90 miles which seems ridiculous. I do think that the fueling is way too rich, anyway its going in for its first service on thursday so will get it sorted then.

Weve had this conversation on the forum before Webby...im afraid to say Logyk gets even less than that I think (but he has got a power commander).

Im getting about 100 miles on average (with the DP pipes/ECU/Filter). DOnt forget the S4R tank is much smaller than other monnies too..

Oh bugger - is it really? Does this mean that the S4 tank that I am having repainted will not fit on my S4R? Where did I put that phone .......... taxi .......

My 11 month 800 only does about 90 odd miles before the fuel light comes on :confused:

I can confirm that the S4 tank is exactly the same as the S4R tank...

100 percent...

Not great fuel mileage, low 40mpg......apart from a track day, when it dropped to 19mpg!!!. The other problem is that Ducati quote 15 litres, but you can only get this in if you fill it right to the very top of the tank...found that out when I ran it in and ran out of fuel after 116 miles!!

I noticed that when I've been riding in 55 Degree (F) weather the mileage goes to the toilet. This is because the operating temperature of the bike is a lot cooler (~154 Deg F) than it is on a warm summer day. What happens is the ECU looks at this and adjusts the air fuel to run a bit richer. Ideal operating temp is around 180 Deg F.

I have recently bought a Monster S4r with Termi's, Ducati updated ECU, etc. It only has 1,800 miles on the clock, has had 2 services and runs fine, but the fuel light comes on around 65 miles!!!
Surely this is not right? Is it because of the Termi's and Chip?
Does anyone out there have the same setup, and if so what mileage do you get?

I've got an Arrow full sysytem and DP filter/airbox mod and std ecu - I am still getting about 150kms (95ish miles) to the fuel light,but then filling up only takes about 10 litres too.
But its a fun 150kms !! :twisted:

My S4R is bog standard as far as the engine & exhaust is concerned & I get about 90 miles before the fuel light comes on and about 10 litres to fill it up.

you didnt buy Webbys S4R did you? :lol: (his has gone now, and he's back onto a 996 SPS)

Might be worth popping into somewhere like Motorapido & getting them to dyno it for you, to check on the fuelling etc?

My first tank returned 114 miles before the light, but then again i fill to the top dispite ducati's instruction to fill to rubber collar in the tank. The 15 litres they claim the tank holds is 2 litres short if you stop at the collar. My 114 miles were spent doing 70 miles at 80+ up the M1 :twisted: and the rest around Nottingham :)

I thought that was ok when i used to get 135 from a 17 litre suzuki sv650

Firstly thanks for everyone to replying to my post. At least I know my bike has a problem! I've not replied for ages as I went on a mini world trip. I would love to have had my bike in OZ and New Zealand. What awesome roads! Shame about the cops.... Costs a fortune to hire ANY bike out there as well!

Anyway I've just got my S4r back after one of the camshaft pulleys fell off and starting banging against the cam cover, and it's still doing about 62 miles on a full tank (filled to the brim!). That's just commuting mileage!
The dealer (Pegasus) mentioned that they had done something to the ECU to fix it. I don't think so.

It's still under warranty, so I wonder if it's something they should fix for free? Anyone got this sort of 'fix' done under warranty?

Also just after I got it (with about 1,200 miles), it started to misfire and they changed the plugs as they had blackened. A good indication that it's overfuelling I reckon!
