has anyone changed the standard horn on their bike? Im looking for something a little less noddy and a bit more manly. Ive been so embarrased about it that I am now just growling the pipes instead. any ideas? cheers

Mr. Yerbury recently changed his. Colour coded too. I know, I have the old one! I'd say PM him but as he's almost omnipresent on this site I'll just say wait for a reply...

I used the one off my Triumph Spitfire, but it doesn't sound much better. Not quite manly, more spotty youth whosw voice is breaking. Must get a horn off an old 5 series BM or summit.

are they that interchangeable? there is an abandoned 15 tonne truck not too far way from me

Or a Nissan Micra, someone was having a laugh when they put that thing in there. I rekon it's off a Kenilworth or maybe one of those cross continent trains.

I got a red and black one from busters, sounds a bit more manly but not much! (the colours match nicely though...)

are they a bit more respectable on the higher spec bikes, like the s4? i cant believe that our dear old italian neighbours with there fondess of the aforementioned use these pathetic "toot toot" things. what ever happened to raw meat, facial hair and a big intrusive "get out of the feckin way" hooter

I don't if your bike has two horns as standard but on my S4 it has two horns and they sound pretty manly, enough to make a few car drivers jump out of their skin, if yours does not perhaps you could wire a second one in. You should have one deep tone and one high tone I think. If you get a catalogue from vehicle wiring products, they sell lots of horns. Hope this helps.

you could get 3?

Richard_S

nah i reckon three would tip the weight over balance and thwart my plans to actually over take once they had moved. may look a bit "goldwing" too. think I'll get my trusty spanner and have a poke round the breakers this weekend. with any luck they will have an old sherman lying around :)

Go to any car accessory shop and get yerself a pair of FIAMM horns, they are red + black like the ones Yerbs has and they are very loud and only cost around £15.00.
I put a pair on my Smart Roadster Coupe and they are definately "Get the F*#k out of my way", instead of the "excuse me" type that are fitted as standard.

In my previous (Laverda Jota) life, the bike had twin Fiamms which howled at @118Dbs. Oustanding, but the horn relay used to regularly melt!

I got a klaxxon on my Mazda, as the horn on there is worse than the duke, AND it has two of them! Just wish i could get a mini klaxxon for the bike... Very Toad of Toad Hall.

or try some of those horns as used by big mac truck convoy types

Richard_S
16-09-2004, 04:21 PM
that sounds like a bit of a slippery slope.. those trucker types come accross all dodgy. I could end up sleeping with my cousin or something and that would not be a good thing. I just need something that emphasises manlyness but without attracting suspicions of any inbred nature in my person or strange tendancies to make people look at me all cross eyed.

in fact i dont really think i need to upgrade my horn at all....I just need to go live in isolation.

Well moving to Islington has changed my life-it sucks now, and I spend all day and night looking out the window at my 4 wheeled and 2 wheeled toys in a paranoid manner.
