Scottoilers, I was talking to my service man yesterday and we were having a laugh about them - as we do. He said similar to me that they are a great invention and prolong the life of chains. When i told him just how wrong i thought it was to use one on such a pretty and mechanical icon as a monster he said they don't work properly on V-Twins anyway  Especially the bigger engines as the pulse is too strong and will crack the bottle. They've seen quite a few 9** where this has happened. So his advice was NOT to use them on twins.

And I was going to get one as well, oh well.

Oh well, back to keeping her slippery by a gentle fingering instead.

I think your man is wrong Dave as the bottle would only crack from the bigger pulse if the bottle was fully sealed. If they were then no amount of vacuum would get the oil to flow as any oil dispensed has to be replaced with air in the bottle. Give the amount of vacuum a bike could develope I'm certain that the materials used to make Scotoilers can withstand the stress of vacuum.

What I suspect is more likely is that the units have been mounted so they're either rigid and the vibration kills them or mounted loosely so the flap about and that cracks them.

yeah, I know loads of V-twin that have them fitted... never heard of that though.... Infact most of my friends ride V-twins, and probably 60% have them fitted.....!
