What affect will a 70 have over the traditional 60?

I'm not 100% but I think it'll alter the height of the front end.

120 60 tyre 120mm width 60% profile = 72mm
120 70 tyre 120mm width 70% profile = 84mm

12mm (½") difference.

Like I say I'm not 100% but it sounds logical to my tired head.......... :confused:

A 70 profile front tyre will slow the steering compared to a 60 profile i changed from pirelli evo corsas with a 60 profile front to Bridgestone 012ss with a 70 profile front now the front is not as "lively" especially under braking I prefer the 70 profile front for exactly this reason.
Ok i have a 748 you may notice the effect more on a monster you may also need to put more input in to cornering with a 70 front to make it steer as quick as a 60 profile tyre

the 70 profile is more rounded where as the the 60 profile is more "triangular" in profile hence the quicker steering as the tyre tends to "fall" into turns

Once, by accident, I fitted a 60 profile front instead of the standard 70 on my 900. Couldn't notice any difference!

Its been a long day, but doesn't a lower profile tyre have a "flatter" shape than a higher profile?

I've got to agree with you David. I think the 120/70 series tyre on my 900 has a taller, more pointed profile compared to the flatter 120/60 that I used to have on the 600. I think this is confirmed by the fact that i never manage to get beyond say 15mm of the edge of the tread with the 120/70 front, even when right on the edge of the rear.

Also going to the taller profile tyre will effect the speedo reading if it's taken from the front wheel, and not the rear as on some later monsters.

i thought tyre sizes were made for different rim widths
so the larger the rim width the larger the number (60 70 one)
so you would put a tyre that is too big for the rim on then it will have a less than 'optimal' (as determined by the ducati factory for various reasons) shape , now depending on actual tyre construction you might get a fater shape or a more pointed one like yuor lot are on about at the end of the day ita all personal preferance try it you might like it ~:? i was told once that oem tyre sizes for the 998 or sumit were 190's for the rear but the rim was only ment for a 180

All Monnys have 3.5 inch wide front rims (S4 and 900/1000 has a 5.5 rear vs a 4.5 rear on the others), and I know the M1000 comes with a 120/70 series front tyre (and a 180/60 rear, S4 180/55 rear), whereas the 'little' Monsters with 160/60 rears have 120/60 fronts.

Give it a go - although I imagine the only real benefit will be you're less likely to ding your rim on a pot hole... (sorry, just been for a jaunt through Surrey today, ahem.)
