Where are you thinking of heading (If it's just a weekend, then presumably Dublin?) - it's just I know the south west (Cork/Kerry) corner very well, and while the roads are a bit bumpy here and there, the countryside is fantastic...

... or have I got it totally wrong, and this is just basically an excuse for a big ****-up?!

Mind you, sounds like it could be fun either way...

As I mentioned in your other thread Steviej my brother-in-law (who's a bit of an old biker) lives in Co. Roscommon close to the Galway border an ideal place for an overnighter and he and my sister-in-law do a brilliant fry in the mornings. They often entertain groups of itinerant bikers and assorted loons from the mainland.

It's a great place for access to Galway and Clare -the Cliffs of Moher etc. and I'm sure he'd be up for it. I'm quite familiar with that area but I know Dublin better (esp. the Northside), we go over at least once a year coz my wife's a Dub. :D

This is a copy of an email I've received from 'Stena Line' today.........

Dear Mr Johnson

Thank you for your request regarding your trip to the Emerald Isle next September. I am delighted
to be able to offer your party a group discount of 20% off a standard fare. This will only apply to a
group in excess of 10 motorbikes travelling on the same sailing.

If you wish to put an advanced request for space in then please email myself before December thereafter
you will need to contact our Holyhead office on 01407 606666.

Kind regards

How about booking a cheapy flight with one of those low budget airlines for the missus (it's less than an hour in the air) and you can pick her up at Dublin Airport. They're doing ridiculously low prices if you book online and in advance. :D

You lot should have a great time in ireland, I was working in Dublin for a year not too long ago and took the bike with me.

Some points I picked up, and I don't mean to offend any Irish listners by this first one, but.....
There's some pretty light-fingered characters around the Dublin area when it comes to bikes - take big locks, and park up overnight with you plates not showing because, unfortunately, the younger generation are brought up to dislike the english! As I said, don't mean to offend, but I've been there and got the t-shirt.

Dublin isn't true Ireland (as most of the lovely irish peeps would agree) so get down to the south or the west coast where the locals are very welcoming and there's some absolutely stunning scenery to explore.

If you do ride near Dublin, then plan some routes over the Wiklow (sp?) mountains - there's a lot of nice new tarmac and more great views.

Don't be affraid to try a visit to Norther Ireland - Belfast is very enlightening, and if you get to Belfast you MUST do a black cab tour, it takes about an hour or so and costs about 10 euro's each. North coast is great too, where they do the NW200.

Vman - you don't have to drink Guinness, but don't even think about going into an Irish bar and ordering a shandy!!!

You will enjoy it peeps - take you cameras!

Well as Logyk is asking in another thread - when are we going to start the organisation? I like Niks idea, and like NB I really don't fancy Dublin (sorry to any Dubs), I know that Budapest is attracting the majority of the wacky stag/hen trips but from what I'm hearing the locals are still wary of large (and looking at this list it will be) groups of English, and a token Scot.

Why's that Julie?

I'm sure we can fit the dates around any arrangements you've made (or is it that you're wanted women there after your last sojourn over the Irish Sea!!)

So, when are we going eh eh?

Late summer would be good but I can do any time apart from May as I'm planning to ride over to Monza for WSB and then back to Le Mans for the MotoGP the following weekend so I expect I'll be a bit tired and skint after 2000 miles on the monster! :burnout:

I know there's another thread about organising a trip to Europe next year, I will post details of our planned trip once we have a route and stops planned if anyone cares to join us?
