As you may know I have purchased my first bike a Ducati M800 and am looking for insurance when I pass my test in August anyone know of any good first time insurance companies as you can imagine I think it will be pretty high!! but that doesnt bother me although I would like to get the cheapest one possible!!

Cheers all

Good choice, you wont be disappointed.

Some insurers wouldnt insure me, but Last July I insured my M800S for £540ish fully comp with £400 excess through Carol Nash, I got breakdown assistance with that as well.
I had 0 NCB, had only just got my license am over 40, Garage the bike, live in Preston and have 6 points.

This July Carol Nash wanted £378 however I paid £330 with only £175 excess and breakdown assistance through Ducati Insurance (its a Norwich Union policy). The only difference is that I now have 1yr NCB and have done an advanced rider training course.

I would shop around if I were you, Ducati insurance can be found in the links section of this site.
You will get extra discount with some insurers if you garage the bike, have an alarm on it and datatag it, having said that the standard immobiliser scored maximum points with Ducati.
Insurers also like advanced training and IAM/RoSPA qualifications so I would also consider that once you have got some miles under your belt

Good luck

Well Ducati quoted me £1,700 fully comp or £800 3rd Party and that was through a Norwich Union Policy! Bike worth 4,000 0 alarmed and immobilised garaged living in Orpington, Kent.

p.s. Im 26 and have a clean driving license

£1700!!

Keep shopping around, i guess mine was relatively cheap cos I am an old git.

I seem to recall seeing ads in MCN for firms who will deal with first timers.

Adrain Flux comes highly recommended by young drivers in my car club (MX5OC) so could be worth a buzz. Is it really worth paying 25% of the value of the bike every year? Crashing them doesn't cost too much... especially if you don't do it!

I got a quote this very morning from Carol Nash, on a 600, me and the missus, £189 tpft, zero ncb, bike in a garage. Renewed 550 Zephyr policy at the same time, £140.

give Nash Warren a call. they were the best for me, £650 fully comprehensive for a M620 with 0 no claims, and a week old licence.

Try CIA...

http://www.cia-insurance.co.uk/

But dont use the web quote, get the number from the site and give them a call.

I got my 620 when i was 28, lived in northolt, garaged, 0 NCB and 6 points and my quote from them was around £450 3rd partry.

Sammye,

No disrespect mate, but if you've got a BR5 postcode then you are gonna be LOADED on your insurance.

I had that problem with my car insurance when I was living in the Crays but it didn't matter which part I came from... if it had a BR5 post code then you I loaded... Bike theft is so popular up your neck of the woods, just go up Hearn's Rise and check the burnt out bikes in the gipsy fields up there. I had one stolen from right under my front window when I was in Doveney Close, mid morning - the b&stards.

Try Ducati Insurance, and also try Bennetts. For the most part, you will be loaded because you haven't passed your test yet and they know you're not allowed to ride it... But you need it insured anyway incase someone breaks into the garage ..... At least you'd be clocking up some no claims bonus whilst it's sitting there doing nothing! ;)

You just make sure that it's not sitting there doing nothing for long :D .... Have you booked your CBT, DAS test etc yet? when will it be? and who with? I did mine last year at Sidcup with LRMT at Catford - DON'T use Southern Riders, you'll be wasting your money - believe me ... I went there to do the CBT and NEVER went bak. LRMT at Catford Greyhound Stadium are brill - great trainers and great instruction. Did the test at Sidcup .. the bloke followed me in a car, so he couldn't hear much of whether the engine revs were too high etc.., cos he kept telling me to pull over and wait for him to catch me up cos he got caught in all the traffic! :p

Funnily enough the gypo fields are at the top of my road Bob! and I jog around them so yes I do see the the smouldering evidence everyday!! F*cking scumbag Motor thieves!!

Unfortunately I have booked with Southern Riders in Footscray (is that the one??) Although my mate passed last Friday with them so Im feeling pretty confident!

When I was a lad, in 1980 my JOTA was £105 with NU. Thats £269 at todays rate. Being in the forces, I was sent to germany and the only insurance I could get was with a local company who wanted £1435.... That's about £3600 nowadays. Sadly the Lav had to go. Whatever you get, it's a bargain!!

Although the horse has probably bolted on this one, thought I would add my 2penneth........I found Bennetts quite ameniable......£170 TPFT for me M600.....31 years old No NCB, license for under a month, parked in a shed, no alarm/immobiliser.....couldn't quite afford the Fully Comp as that was about £450......but thought it was pretty good value....and only 16quid a month in installents.......

Try Laxtons, 0870 444 6365/4 they gave me the best deal this year, and they threw in limited recovery. I've opted for TPFT because I was sick of being ripped on fully comp.

Pricey!

Just done the S4 (2002) for £420 fully comp, 2 years no claims with 2 riders (one with licence less than 2 years - me) with wicked quotes. Mind you, they didn't want to insure me at first, but because we've been with them a year with no claims, they said OK.

Lovely people!

I've just had a quote from Ducati Insurance for my 600 Dark, Y 2001, just passed my test on Wednesday, kept in garage, fully comp = £575.00 - is this good or should I ring round a few more?

SazzaG
07-01-2005, 03:53 PM
I think that sounds pretty cheap to me. I was quoted more than that just for tpft when I passed my test, and I live in a very low risk postcode (and I'm over 30 as well).

Well done for passing your test!

was the bike about 1200? in that case paying nearly 600 for tpft seems a bit much, Id go for tp only and spend some money on good security, remember to lock it to something like a ground anchor in the garage.

I should ring round.
I pay £350 fully comp for a brand new 620 (but then I am old and I live in the middle of nowhere  ).

It might cost more than that to fix it but if it does they'll write it off anyway and only give you the current book price so you would loose out..go tpand get good ground and chain lock.
