To ecu or not to ecu,that is the qeustion?

Hi,i am going to fit an after market exhaust to my S4R,i am a little confused at the following:
(1) I am going to fit the pipes direct to the manifold,to get rid oof the cat,will this cause any running problems?
(2) Why do DP supply a new air filter/ecu with there termi pipes,will this be nessecary with other types of exhaust systems?

I have had a Power Commander fitted along with a few hours dyno time. It really was worth while, I now have a far smoother power and torque curve. It's easier to ride at low speed too, as it is happy from 2000 rpm.

If you have a fax machine I could fax over a copy of my dyno chart which JHP did for me.
