Ok, ok, so it isn't a monster, but you chaps are soooo helpful!

Yesterday I picked up my '97 900SS (Red of course)
It has an oil temperature guage, and although the owners manual, and Haynes show you how to replace it, replace the bulb, none of them mention what you should see!

i.e What temperature should your oil reach? What is safe?
It's obviously weather & riding conditions dependant too, but I would like to know everything is ok!

This is in the assumption that 900 monster engines are the same a SS'

I've got a '98 900SSie, I'm asuming the guage works the same though.
Mine starts on cold (obviously) and in normal brisk road riding rises to a little over half way after some time, perhaps 20 minutes. Thrashing it will cause it to rise a little further, but about two thirds is as far as it tends to go.
Hope that helps!

Hiya,
I used to have a 97 model 900ss and mine, once warm would run at about 80 degrees and the only time it went any higher, is when I was stuck in slow moving traffic. I loved that bike, it was the 2nd 900ss I'd owned, I had a 94 model before that, saying that though, I've loved all of my Ducati's.
Anyway, enough of my ramblings, hope the info is of some use.

all the best
