Shouldn't that be "4 candles"? You know, "handles for forks"!

Funniest thing on TV ever!!

Ref the Fork Oil - think the haynes manual explains it quite well. Either that, take the tops off each fork and turn you bike upside down! :)

Well, a huge thankyou to you all for the help and advice  it`s nice to know that there`s somewhere you can go for help when you need it ! I go to the correct place, avoiding "random chat" and "humour" and what do I get ? blabbering on about comedy sketches and Ronnie Barker  off to do the job now, thanks again.

OK then, with regards changing fork oil, it would appear that you have to remove the fork legs from the bike completely to empty them ! so, for now, I have shelved the job, will have a crack at it soon, certainly makes me think though, just how many of us have this job done at the specified interval, 24k ? would be interested to hear from anyone who has done the job. with a few hints and tips, I`ll bet there`s a few Monsters flying around with VERY old fork oil, and reduced handling to match !

I've not done it on the Monster yet.
But I have done it on my own bike when I upgraded the fork springs and changed to a heavier grade oil at the same time.
You have to remove the forks from the bike to do it properly.
The main thing is supporting the bike well enough.
First loosen the top fork caps then remove the front wheel and unbolt the caliper and mudguard.
Loosen the fork clamps at the yokes top and bottom.
Slide the forks out the yokes.
Remove the top caps.
Remove the fork springs.
Turn the forks upside down and pump the oil out of them several times.
Fill with new oil.
I would recommend a heavier grade of oil than original.
I am not sure of the oil level you would need to consult the manual.
You have to work the forks up and down to circulate the oil before measuring.
Fully compress the forks and measure from the top.
Fully extend the forks reinstall the springs and spacers.
Refit the top nuts.
Fit the forks back onto the bike and reassemble everything.
Make shure you tighten the top caps at the end.

I think I have covered everything and it should only take a couple of hours max.
Just take your time and you will be fine.
You will be suprised at the horrible goo that comes out of the forks.

kev

Norrie has covered most of it

try hanging the bike with rope from a garage roof

and follow haynes manual carefully

good luck !!
