Hi there,

Bought 1998 Monster on Friday. Black with the yellow frame. Absolutely Georgeus. I have to accept I don't know much about bikes, that's why I took it to Ducati dealer before I bought it for a check up. Took it for a ride on Friday and all of it sudden stop within the hour under the rain. The AA replaced the fuse for the start up and the bike went... for all of 1 minute. When I tried to go again same thing happened. I don't get any power (anything basically) when pressing the botton. I fear I've been done...:(

Any ideas what it could be and damage?

Join the club ... had mine a day and the indicator relay packed up and horn doesn't work .... with MOT looming !!!

Sounds like water has got in somewhere and caused a short ... get a whole load of fuses.

Check you have the correct value fuses in - don't be tempted to put a higher rated one in there.

Next check the voltage on your battery.

Start disconnecting each wiring loom, start the bike up each time and see if it still pops - this will try isolate any short you might have.

take each connector apart and give them a libral dosing of WD40

give the insides of the handlebar switchgear a liberal dosing as well

disconnect each relay and give the brass pins a scrape, dose with WD40

Do this each autumn and should have no problems

good luck
