I need to replace at least one fork oilseal on my 2001 ST4 (916cc). I don't have a workshop manual for this bike, but it looks as though the forks are the same as the ones shoen in my 916 Haynes manual. Can anyone please confirm this, or maybe direct me to a source of the correct manual pages?

I've replaced fork oilseals on my 1995 M900 a couple of times, as one of the stanchions is slightly pitted and scored, but the ST4 stanchions both look to be fine. (I bought a brand new M900 stanchion years ago, but discovered that attempting to remove the lower tube is likely to be impossible and/or destructive, and a new one is unobtainium.)

Any help with the ST4 information will be much appreciated, please!

If they’re regular ST4, rather than S model, they should be the same as S4 etc. but pretty similar to 916. the oil level may be different. S4 manual says 492ml per leg/ 94mm

It is possible, I've done it:

What bottom casting do you have on the M900?
Marzocchi or Showa?
I might have a brand new unused one you could put on a new stanchion.

MCT are also very good with service and advice.

If you want more info and/or chat about the ST bikes then get in touch with Nick aka "The Clockie" on here. He runs the liST which is an ST orientated forum/chat/club. I can send you his email if you wish.

Yes indeed, they're based near me, and I've bought various bits from them over the years.

I've always used Ktech for suspension stuff, always been very good and it helps that they're not far away.

Many thanks to all of you for your help with this. The 916 forks are different internally, but Slob was correct in thinking the S4 forks are the same as the ST4.
The job has now been done, and seems to have been successful.
