Hi To The Monster Forum
I wanted to say hi and thanks for letting me join.
I am looking for my first Monster and I have been reading as few very interesting threads about Monsters and it looks like I have found the right place to learn about the beasts.

I am looking for an early air cooled one I think, as it will be a fair weather bike.

I am thinking of an M900 and for any advise on :

Looking For One - Where is best place to start?

Buying One - What to look for? Pricing ?

Running / Servicing - Intervals and costs ( Like belt changes)

Insuring - Any insurance specialists?

It's a lot too ask I know but I think I have come to the right please.

Thank you all for you help in advance

welcome to the forum.
look for a bike that’s been used (and therefore serviced/maintained) regularly. bikes that are barely used seem to store up problems that combined can lead to large bills rectifying many bits an bobs. a pristine low mileage bike that only does 20 miles a year, to the mot and back, isn’t necessarily a winner.
if you find a specific bike/model start asking on here.
belts need changing every two to three years (12-18k miles), along with reshimming the valves. they’re pretty easy to work on if you’re at all mechanically minded, although desmo shims can take a bit of getting your head round.
what’s your previous biking experience and approximate age?

Hi.
I’d support an M900 as the bike to get, though I am a tad biassed towards them.
The youngest of them are now about twenty years old, so condition is more important than mileage. Look for service history and evidence it’s been looked after. Alternatively find a rough one at lower cost and make it right so you know what’s been done.
They like to be ridden regularly, and don’t run well on stale petrol.
Servicing can be done by an enthusiastic owner, including the Cam belts which are a triennial replacement. Once you’ve found “the one” check out the charging circuit as blown reg/rectifiers often manifest as a boiled battery. The evidence of that is discolouration of the nearside frame and engine paint.

IMHO One of the best value air head Monsters atm is the 1000Sie and it also has the best air cooled motors, the 1000DS. People seem to be asking considerably less for them than the M900's and M900Sie for a newer and better model.

Hi, welcome to the forum. I have a 2000 900ie, first of the injected models, it's a great bike. Looking forward to seeing your photos.

Pic as promised.

I am sure some of you will recognise the bike as having just undergone an extensive rebuild by another forum member.

She really is a beauty.
