Hi

I am in the procces of putting my M600 back together again.
I have really spent some time on it. stripped almost everything out.
polished, electoplated, full rebuild on the carbs.
But foolishly I did not take any notice when I took the harness out.
I am now stuck on where this ringlet bolts to on from the harness.
I believe is positive although being a black lead.
My only guess is that it bolts on to the Ht coil plate but I dont just want to try and blow things. Luckily it has no ECU.

I’d guess an earth (it’s right by the battery), since there are multiple earths around the loom, it should be easy to confirm with a multimeter.

It's an earth yes.

Hi Albie
Thanks. You know where it goes to?
Under the battery neg side? On the negative battery terminal (although I think there was only one when i took it apart.

Really stumped.
If you can send a pic that would be great.

It's right by the positive terminal. If i run s voltage test it give 7.7v as s neg and _3v checking it as positive.

I have to say I haven't secured the rectifier as yet and it needs proper farthing throughout.

with multimeter on ‘dc volts (20)’
with -ve probe on your mystery ring terminal
and +ve probe on a bare metal part (or battery -) you should see 0V
or with +ve probe on battery+ you should see ~ +13V
if the mystery terminal is an earth.

If it doesn’t reach battery- terminal, maybe it’s not an earth?

connect reg/rec up too (that should have a good earth)

I’ll see if I have a 600 wiring diagram in the morning, what year is your 600?

Unfortunately my bike is in 500 pieces. I just checked my loom and it actually looks dissimilar to your picture but both ring connectors are the same and near each other. One of them earths went to the bottom of the battery frame and the other near the rectified from what I remember. I can send you pics of my loom if you have a email addy. It's a very simple loom and the connectors run pretty close to their use points. The ring holes are both 6mm clearance.

I am pretty sure that is another ground connection to the frame and is secured under the battery box by one of its mounting bolts.

The tanks off my bike at the moment so I can have a proper look when I get home later if neeeded?

yea, weird. If it's an earth it shouldn't show any voltage unless you test with the battery positive. Maybe it's shorted out somewhere?

That's the one at the last bit of the loom. The other mounts ( I wrote in my blog ) on the lower rectified mount bolt. The engine earths at rear as we know and through engine bolts.

Apologies for any confusion- I’ve just had another look now I’m home from work and yes, I agree Albie.

The part I was thinking is the ring terminal held in place around item number 26 on the diagram.

What year is your 600? My manual is for pre '98 model. I'm not sure what changes you might find on later models...

If pre '98, it looks as though it would bolt to the bottom of the battery tray, which means it would be an earth and depending on where you're sticking the other meter probe might represent a short!

That’s the one I thought it was originally but Albie thinks not and says the wire in question is grounded on one of the Regulator Rectifier mounts.

Yes it is the main ground from the harness that bolts under the battery.
I took the harness off sonic cleaner it. Stripped it down and found the previous owner had made a ground from an old ht lead. That's what threw me because i had already put it back.
Thanks for your help!
It now starts which means my hours of rebuilding hasn't been in vain.
I can now sleep again.

The Lockdown rebuild.
putting it back together after full carb rebuild, ultrasonic and soda blasted. paint engine black. Frame gold but wish I had powder coated it now. Full LEd lights, LED indicators and dash. https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/attachments/20210304_183153-jpg.234395/
