S4/S4R Steering Damper

anyone selling an across the tank Ohlins steering damper

Which do you want the S4 type or the S4r type? Different bar for each model set up so its a different kit and possibly a different damper required.

Maybe post this in the 'Wanted' section? This is the standard DP setup on my Foggy, which was available as a DP add on kit for standard S4s. You will notice it's very different from the S4R setup due to the different top yoke.

All types are rocking horse poo these days from my experience, so good luck finding something. There was someone on here who had recently bought a DP S4 kit but was unable to fit it due to some missing parts. Not sure if they found them or not. We couldn't work out what was missing, as most of it seemed to be there. My guess was it was the ignition barrel cover as it's different when you fit one of those.

Yea, they should be a straight swap. You might need to source some alternative mirrors since I noticed yours are bar end type, the s4 has solid bars with threaded holes for the bar ends to screw into he S4R has hollow bars, so the fittings will most likely be different. I did look at bar ends for mine but couldn't find anything that would fit and didn't look like it would fall off, but most were the clip over the bar type not screw in ones. But mirrors really who needs 'em? handy to see if plod is flashing you over, but that's about all! :)

Yea, but you plan on changing them for S4R bars don't you? So you'll need a different steering damper fitting kit. The damper unit itself may be the same size for both but the brackets will be different.

There was this guy but I don't know exactly what he has or if he is missing some important parts? Maybe he got it to fit or maybe for sale?

Has anyone actually had a tankslapper on an S4 (or any other monster), I've not.

DP damper fitted to my bike from new, must admit I've never experienced so much as a shimmy from the bars. The damper is wound back to it's minimum setting so I would feel any movement.

That's not an across the bar type one though, fits to the side of the frame by the looks.

Rocking horse poo then? At least the fitting kits probably are, you may be able to get the damper unit as it's probably a standard one, if you can find out what size you need. I'm guessing the fitting kit is a Ducati Performance item. The kit for my Ohlins rear shock was a standard ST4S item and it still took me 2-3 years to track down the right parts even though the shock itself was an off the shelf item.

I’ve not ridden a Monster with steering damper fitted, but I’ve never felt the need for one either.

Or is it essential for the look you want for the bike Lessaint?

I never felt the need for one on my 750 or 900SS, but they really didn't have enough power to upset the chassis too much and the bikes are over-tyred too imho. So maybe the M900 is the same being derived from the 851/888 superbikes, it's kinda over spec'd for the modestly powered M900 engine? I've certainly been glad of one on my S4 on a few odd occasions, the front end does have a tendency to go light under power sometimes when pushed hard.

There you go sorted! The S4 one does seem to be missing a lot of the fitting kit if all you get is what's pictured. There should be a lower bracket that fits under the ignition barrel/a specific (e.g shorter) ignition barrel cover/bolts and a few other bits and bobs that you might struggle to source. If they just removed it from a bike then they probably didn't realise the other bits were needed.

Thanks Racer but i'm after the top of the tank mounted kit, the linear side of the frame mounting as per the link is not for me

I went with the Matris option, due to Ohlins not interested in one off customers
