View Full Version : Rexxer Ecuador flash

I’m not sure if anybody can help with this. I have just had a rexxer Ecuador flash at Cornerspeed Ducati. I have fitted the ecu, disconnected the O2 sensors and carried out the three bar warm up and everything appears ok. Apart from during the warm up the headlight kept going on and off at different intervals. After completing the warm left the bike to cool and started it again and the headlight is still going on and off. Spoke to Cornerspeed who said I might have disturbed a relay but can’t see anything. Any ideas .

This information is for the 1100 Evo but I'm guessing it will also apply to your 1100S.

There are a couple of relays under the tank and they can work loose causing intermittent problems. (My injector relay popped out just enough to break contact and now it's held on with a cable tie for security.)

Have you checked your error log? If the relay is causing problems, you may see the message "LIGHT". Note that, if the problem is intermittent then the error message might not be there as it will probably reset when the light starts working again.

On the Evo, the relay is under the tank by the ECU, so easily disturbed when removing the ECU. Make sure it's pushed fully home.

Before you go to the trouble of removing the tank, also look at the headlight connector on the steering stem - they can become loose/corroded causing the problems you describe.

Thanks for the info. Found the relay and seems to be ok. Swapped the ecu back to the dp one and still same problem so not the ecu which was doubtful anyway. The more times I start the bike the problem is getting worse. When the headlight goes off indicators don’t work either and neutral light goes on and off as does the eml. Spoke to service at Ducati Manchester said it could low amps from the battery. Going to try a battery to eliminate it I think.

What fault messages do you get when the ECU warning light comes on?

Note to self must use self checker more !!!

I’m not sure how to read the fault codes. The eml light just goes on and off with the neutral light. It doesn’t really flash a code and nothing on the display.

If a fault code has been recorded then you'll need to access the menu on the dash to view it using the mode switch on the left switch cluster:

Note: All the above is for the 1100 Evo so may not be exactly the same on yours (e.g. traction control). But I think most is common to both models.

Just had a quick peek at the wiring, (bear in mind I'm looking at an Evo rather than an 1100S here), and the front indicators don't share a connector with the headlight so that probably rules out the block connector I mentioned earlier as a source of the problem. However, the indicators do appear to share an earth with the headlight, (as does the horn. Does the horn also stop working when the headlight goes out?). Perhaps a bad earth connection could be the culprit?

Also, try removing and cleaning the large block connector going into the back of the dash.

Having said all that, the fact that this problem has started now, just after you've removed and replaced the ECU, would suggest that the two things are linked.

I’ve check for error codes non displayed. Next plan is to try the battery off a GT1000. To see if any change.

Just tried for error codes with engine running and no codes but the battery voltage shows HI occasionally and then headlight goes off and EML comes on.

I am thinking possibly regulator/rectifier problem.

What do you think ?

The fact that you get the "HI" error message does suggest a problem with the regulator or regulator circuit.

Looking at the wiring diagram again, it appears the regulator shares the same earth as the indicators, headlight and horn, so perhaps the problem lies there?

Monster all fixed now, it was overcharging at 18.5 volts. New regulator purchased from Cornerspeed (cheaper than aftermarket). The headlight issue appears to have been the bike protecting itself.
Rexxer flash makes it a lot smoother through the Rev range.
